Mouth Sounds, Whispers and Ear Eating ASMR

Whispers, breathing, humming and eating sounds: the triggers people love most, and the ones some people can't stand. Four to try below.

These are 4 of the 37 sounds in this group. Tingles ASMR has 255 in all. See what else is in the app.

What’s in this group

Mouth sounds are any sound made with the lips, tongue, teeth or breath, recorded very close to the microphone. The library splits into a few families:

  • Whispering: Inaudible Whispering, Unintelligible Whispers, Echo Whispers, Demonic Whispers. None of them has words you can follow, which is the point: there’s nothing to listen to, only the texture of the voice.
  • Breathing: Deep Breathing, Closeup Breathing, Slow Breathing, Echo Breath, Deep Echo Breaths, and two mixed with clicks or kisses
  • Eating: Crisps, Lollipop, Melon and Ice
  • Mouth sounds and kisses: Mouth Sound, Mouth Sounds, Clicky Mouth, Gentle Mouth Sounds, Kissing, Intimate Kisses
  • Breath on the mic: Ear Blowing, Gentle Mic Blowing, plus Soft Humming
  • Ear eating: mouth sounds made right at the ear of a binaural microphone, a dummy head with a microphone in each ear, so they sound as if they’re happening at your own ear. They range from Calm Drift and Relaxed Pace to Intense 3D and Rapid Tingles.

The most polarising trigger

Whispering is the trigger people name most often in surveys going back to Barratt and Davis in 2015. Mouth sounds, especially eating, are the opposite: they produce some of the strongest tingles in people who like them and some of the strongest dislike in people who don’t. Sounds like chewing are a common trigger for misophonia, a strong negative reaction to everyday noises.

There is some early evidence on why eating sounds work for the people who like them. In a 2025 study of 46 people, Liu and Kondo found that people more sensitive to slow, gentle touch reported stronger tingles, and the effect was clearest for eating sounds. The triggers guide has the detail.

How to use mouth sounds

  • Start gently: if you’re new to mouth sounds, try Soft Humming, Slow Breathing or Inaudible Whispering before the eating or ear eating tracks.
  • For sleep: the app’s Sleep Therapy mix pairs Ear Blowing with Closeup Breathing, and Fall Asleep Next To Me adds a quiet Airplane hum under the breathing.
  • For intensity: 3D Ear Eating and 3D Mouth Sounds are the most intense mixes in the app. Use headphones; on a speaker most of the left-right movement is lost.
  • If you dislike them: that’s common and nothing is wrong with you. Brushing and tapping give close, personal sounds without the mouth.
