Study and Focus ASMR: Keyboards, Pens, Page Turning
Keyboards, pens and pages: the sound of someone else working, which helps some people get on with their own. Four to try below.
Samples
Tap a sound to play it on a loop, and tap it again to stop. Headphones help, especially for close-mic triggers.
These are 4 of the 16 sounds in this group. Tingles ASMR has 255 in all. See what else is in the app.
What’s here
These are the sounds of someone working quietly near you:
- Keyboards: Blue Switch, Brown Switch and Linear Switch (three kinds of mechanical keyboard switch), Fast Typing and Mouse
- Writing: Pen Click, Marker, Memo Pad, Flashcard, Calculator
- Paper: Page Turning Fast, Page Turning Slow, Cutting Paper, Origami
- Hobbies: Chess and Painting
The three switch types sound different. Blue switches are clicky, with a sharp click on every key. Brown switches have a softer bump and no click. Linear switches are the smoothest and quietest of the three.
Why “watching someone work” is a trigger
A 2025 study of 16,679 people by Greer and colleagues found four groups of triggers. One of them was “Watching”: calmly observing someone carry out a task, such as writing, sorting or painting. These sounds are the audio half of that. You don’t need to see the work to feel the calm, focused company of it. There’s more on the four groups in the triggers guide.
How to use study sounds
- For deep work: one keyboard sound plus a steady base. The app’s Quiet Study Room mix layers Marker, Brown Switch and Mouse over an extractor fan.
- For coding: Code Marathon puts Brown Switch, an extractor fan and a café over a soft music track.
- For reading: Page Turning Slow with rain underneath, or the Ambient Study mix (Origami, Chess and Summer Rain).
- If clicks distract you: use Linear Switch or Painting instead of Blue Switch, and keep it quiet enough that you stop noticing it.
