Playing ASMR With the Screen Off
Mixes, playlists and podcasts in Tingles ASMR keep playing when you lock your phone. Here's how it works, and what to do if the sound stops.
A bright screen is the last thing you want next to you at night. Here is what Tingles ASMR keeps playing when you lock your phone.
What plays with the screen off
| Content | Free | Premium |
|---|---|---|
| Sound mixes (premade and your own) | Yes | Yes |
| Sound playlists | Yes | Yes |
| Podcast episodes | Yes | Yes |
| YouTube ASMR videos | Pauses | Keeps playing as audio (not live streams) |
Mixes, playlists and podcasts all have lock-screen controls. Mixes have play and pause, playlists add previous and next, and podcasts have a seek bar and 10-second skips.
Videos with the screen off
YouTube videos play inside the app, and on their own they need the screen on. With Premium, Tingles ASMR switches a playing video to Lights Off as soon as you lock the phone, go to your home screen or switch apps. The video keeps going as audio, and when you come back it picks up as video at the same point. Live streams can’t switch to audio, so they pause. Pulling down Control Center or the notification shade doesn’t trigger it.
Lights Off also turns on when you start Sleep Mode on a video, which is the easiest way to fall asleep to a video and have it stop on its own.
On the free plan, a video pauses when the screen turns off. Mixes, playlists and podcasts carry on.
If the sound stops
Playback only carries on while its player is open: there’s no mini-player, so going back from a player page stops it.
If the sound cuts out on its own a few minutes after you lock an Android phone, battery saving is the usual cause. Sound stops when the screen turns off has the fix for each phone brand, and the other reasons playback stops.
